Ten years of teaching,
now designing and researching products.
I spent ten years teaching, across a lot of different settings and age groups. Teaching is a research loop on a short cycle. You watch where someone gets lost, guess why, change something, then watch again. I did that thousands of times before I had a name for it.
At Alberta Health Services, I ran structured patient interviews. My job was to keep the data clean across hundreds of conversations with people who were unwell, tired, or wary. That’s where I learned that the most useful answer usually comes after the script ends, when you ask if there’s anything else.
That’s also why I studied Information Design rather than graphic design. The program was about structure, and it gave me a way to do deliberately what I’d been doing by instinct in a classroom.
I’m based in Calgary and open to product design and UX research roles. Outside of work I’m usually listening to jazz or chill reggae, or driving out to the mountains.
